NEWS: Chelsea are now considering signing £70m goalkeeper at the end of this season
Reports have claimed that Chelsea are now considering strengthening the goalkeeper position at the end of this season.
According to CalcioMercato, the Blues are contemplating an upgrade in the form of AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Maignan has continued to perform at a top level this season for the Serie A side, with him being recognised as one of the top players in his position.
Chelsea have previously been linked with his signing, however have yet to make a real move to bring him in.
Last summer saw them buy two first team goalkeepers, with them preferring to go down the economical route in that area.
While not everyone who attends Stamford Bridge has been blown away by the impact of Robert Sanchez, the same cannot be said for Djordje Petrovic.
Chelsea considering Maignan
The 24-year-old has been a really impressive shot stopper since he took over the gloves late last year, with him playing every single game since Sanchez picked up an injury.
There will be many thinking that on his current run, it would be difficult for anyone to take his place in the starting side.
However, Italian media are now reporting that they still have Maignan on their list, with a number of other European giants also keen on the move.
It has previously been claimed that it is going to require a fee of around £70m in order to sign the Frenchman at the end of this season.
Many right now will be wondering if a goalkeeper is the position the Blues really need to be strengthening when the transfer window opens again.
A striker is certainly going to be on the agenda for the club when they get the chance again, with Victor Osimhen reportedly high up on their list of priorities from Napoli.
