Arsenal are already preparing a massive summer transfer window and are reportedly interested in signing Dutch star Matthijs de Ligt.
De Ligt is one of Europe’s greatest defenders, and English clubs have been courting him for several seasons. Indeed, prior to his transfer to Bayern Munich in 2022, Chelsea was quoted at roughly £105 million to capture the Dutchman.
And now, with Bayern having a bad season and Thomas Tuchel flourishing in Munich, De Ligt may be available this summer, with Arsenal and Manchester United interested.
Arsenal keen on signing Matthijs de Ligt
According to FootballTransfers, Arsenal have now joined the race for De Ligt and have even held internal discussions about doing a deal for the defender.
De Ligt, 24, is another product of Ajax’s legendary youth system, having previously played for Dutch heavyweights Juventus and now Bayern.
A move to England looked inevitable at some moment, and recent reports suggest that the defender is dissatisfied in Germany.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to raise the funds to sign both De Ligt and the striker they desire.
However, the idea of De Ligt alongside William Saliba is something to really dream about for the Gunners.
A mega signing for the Gunners
While the ‘incredible‘ De Ligt’s arrival would probably be bad news for Gabriel Magalhaes, there is no doubt it’s a signing that improves the Arsenal squad and first XI.
The Dutch defender has been watched by English clubs for a long time for good reason, and any elite Premier League team would be interested in him.
Of course, it is reported here that Manchester United are in pole position, which makes sense given Erik ten Hag’s connections to the Dutch game.
However, if Bayern are willing to move Matthijs De Ligt this summer, there will be a great demand for him.
Arsenal must ensure that they are at least in the conversation.
