Tottenham are preparing a late bid to sign this Chelsea midfielder but can they meet the Blues’ asking price of £80m?
Tottenham Hotspur are eager to bring in a few reinforcements during the ongoing transfer window and according to Football Insider, the Lilywhites are planning to sign Conor Gallagher.
Conor Gallagher is a product of the Chelsea academy but the midfielder has not been able to make any major impacts in the 73 appearances he’s made for the club so far. He has 18 months remaining in his current contract and the Blues are reportedly ready to cash in on him.
Chelsea obviously are in no hurry to offload him which is why they are demanding a transfer fee of around £80 million for the England international.
This season, Conor Gallagher has featured in all 20 Premier League games for Chelsea which shows that Pochettino trusts the youngster but he is not close to signing a new contract which is one of the main reasons why Boehly is ready to get rid of him.
Gallagher currently earns £50k-per-week but as per the rumours, he wants to earn around £150k-per-week which is a major stumbling block in extension talks.
Chelsea will be more than happy to offload Conor Gallagher by the end of this month but £80 million is a very unrealistic demand. The 23-year-old is a great talent but surely he is not worth £80 million which is why some experts believe Chelsea will let him go if someone is willing to offer around £45 million plus bonuses.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is eager to add depth to his midfield to be able to push for a Champions League place for the next season but there’s no way Daniel Levy will agree to shell out so much the Chelsea midfielder.
Initially, Spurs tried to bring in Kalvin Phillips but that move has now gone down the drain which is why they have shifted their focus to Conor Gallagher. It’s still unclear what the dynamics of the offer are but knowing Levy’s tactics, it won’t be a surprise if Tottenham are planning to sign Gallagher on a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of this season.
